Poetry, for me, was more or less a "Mid life Crisis" kind of thing. Rather than climbing Mt Everest or buying a BMW Z4, I thought I would try my hand at Poetry, an achievable goal I figured. My inspiration came first from words that I heard throughout the day or lines of lyrics in a song on the radio but never using them in the context of how they were offered. The line from an REM song "There's a photograph on the dashboard" was changed to "There's a paperback in the nightstand" and was the opening line to a very blasphemous piece I wrote many years ago. I never wanted to reveal myself in my work so I never told the story of me in my poems. Well, not for many years anyway and even then, you might be hard press to find me in any of them. My "Mid life crisis" has worked out for me quite well, I have written many great pieces, many not so great pieces and even more really shitty pieces (you won't see those on this venue) and I've had a great time writing them and receipting them. Made good friends and met some unbelievably talented people. I haven't written much for a long time but joining this group may just revive my muse.
