Monumental Hurdles

Monumental hurdles...
Short and narrow strides.
Trying to reach the myrtles,
Where my heart now resides.
Liquid courage coursing,
Cutting through the sanity.
Constantly divorcing,
From the old impurities.

The avoidance didn't take.
Not concocting a plan or goal,
Was surely a mistake.
My body aging fast,
My mind exuberant.
How long will all this last?
I yearn to be content...
