My Sail

In the darkest pit of the planet
On the starkest spot of all space
I sit and I sweat and I swear and I swat
But the blackness still holds me in place

Out over a lifeless ocean
On a rickety skiff known as time
My palms are smooth but my mind is bloody
From fighting the past that is mine

My guilt-soaked sail rests before me
As I lay wait for the winds of change
But the silence is loud and the wind doesn't come
And all hope of land seems far out of range

And yet I reach my childish hands forward
To grip the rope that's long since been taut
And I hoist my sail and bear my shame
Because it's the only one that I've got
