On the Other Side

The car stopped at the traffic signal.
I turned to look out the window.
On the left was a group of school children.
Laughing, playfully hitting each other...
One squirted her water bottle on the other...
The other tried to hide...
A smile came to my face.
Watching them enjoy the moment...
Moments made for children almost.

I turned to look out the other window.
On the right I saw two young girls...
Not more than 12 years of age.
In their hands they held some books and stickers,
Walking up to passersby, one by one,
Trying to convince them into the purchase.

Then the group of school children began to cross the road.
The girls tried to go to the other side as well.
They crossed paths at the middle of the road.
But life had given only some the green signal...
And the others?
