Portrait

A portrait of sympathies,
In a melancholic frame,
Hangs heavy on the walls
Of hearts,
Wearing on the strength
Of studs,
That support the grieving
Soul.

Calling out beyond the glass,
Beneath the smudges of
Sorrow's fingerprints,
Is an enduring spirit,
Determined to be seen.

Wipe away the dust
And notice:
A smile that endures the tide
Despite the pain that it abides.
A new image takes shape,
Formed in strength and
Found through grace.
