The Monster

This hell-bent disease ravages mind and soul
It eats like a monster, taking its toll
We socially distance, we cover mouth and nose
But the monster called Covid leaves death in its throes
We can't help but wonder, when will it end?
Will life ever be normal?
Will living be the new trend?
Scientists struggle, our bodies to mend
Could a vaccine be just around the bend?
In the meantime, lives are torn asunder
This monster called Covid continues to plunder
Leaving raw pain and despair in its wake
Please, for human decency's sake, give us a break
Stop leaving pain and destruction in your wake
But instead it keeps on eating, its message rings true
And along comes influenza, monster number two
