40 to Life

Everything I own is on a train down to Mexico
Everything I need seems to be leaving me
Everywhere I go, I go on my own
Because my lifetime is riddled with lies
When you're running from 40 to life

24 years old but my hearts bound in the wire
Time moves slow when these thorns are choking out my fire
I'll never know if I'll be going home
Because these walls will shackle your fight
When the judge hands you 40 to life

My heart grows cold but once was made of gold
These fragile walls keep me bent, broke and faded
My eyes are blind but I won't leave alive
Because the reaper man's testing you might
When you're looking at 40 to life

Life flashes by but I aint got no sorrow
Here I lie, with the gallows waiting for me tomorrow
Hear my cries, but the lord won't show me mercy
Cause the time stops passing by
When 40 means you're losing your life
