A Beautiful Day

I woke to a pale custard sunrise
And stood a moment to rub the tiredness from my eyes
Clouds gathered to hide the fading moon
As the sun rose up high and took its place at one minute past noon
The silence of the morn was soon broken
As people around the country were awoken
The traffic thundered along the ribbons of intertwining motorway
As a crescendo of noise filled the day
Life went about its daily business
As the wind teased the leaves with a tender caress
The day wore on into the late afternoon
It would be getting dark quite soon
The sun teetered on the edge of the horizon
A few moments later it fell from view and was gone
The clouds were bathed in an afterglow of brunette
Darkness was greeted by an encore of a gorgeous sunset
