A Brothers Life

A candle and a man, one lit by a flame.
The other burning with life’s passions.
Both consumed by time.
The days and nights of work.
Pursuing the dream.
The mystical yearning of distant goal.
The bright light chased but ever more distant.
The wasting away of a body pushed to far.
Living for the moment, dying for the future.
The gray ashes of a cigarette, mute testimony
of a wasted life. Burned like a candle
misshapen and cold in death’s irony.
