A Call for the Death of Winter

Minute crystals
Frozen water vapor
Colossal flakes
These granular diamonds
Cold and unwelcome

Stinging crystals
Scratch the eyes
Cruel winds
Tear at the flesh
Melted brown slush
Glaze the roads

I shut my eyes
To that savage glacial face
“No more!”
I scream
But the white brutes
Continue to descend

That pure white
Suffocates the ground
Beauty that kills

Warm hand of summer
Put to death
Your terrible sister
Winter
