A Cold Winter’s Night

By Ron Lee

I remember when winter nights were cold
And dreams of springtime warmed my soul
On chilly cold evenings so harsh for a child to bare
The wrath of winter's frigid cold air

While embraced in the arms of my mother's tender care
Watching embers turn to ashes the color of her hair
Finding warmth in the songs she sang
Praying for a miracle to revive the flames
On an impartial starry evening heaven framed
Her belief in the creator her faith sustained

Whenever I hear church bells ring
Childhood memories are rekindled in my soul
The warmth and refuge in the songs my mother sang
On quiet winter evenings when nights were cold
