A Common Shadow

Like the wind and air you breathe, it is always around you.
No creature can escape its sights.
No one is safe from this darkness in even the softest nights,
Replacing life before it with something new.

A being so humble it doesn't need to hide its simple guise,
Haunting everything that breathes,
Hunting with the claws from its sheaths,
Prowling silently until it claims its plentiful prize

Taking away your last breath,
At once alleviating your pain.
Your life washed away by the tears of rain.
All living things in this world will succumb to the sword of death.
