A country is not a home

A country is not a home,
when the air smells like burnt flesh
when blood turns the sea into wine
when the streets are silent
the doors are shut
the shops are closed
the babies gulp their tears
the children silence their laughter.

A country is not a home,
when the men forget their ancestor's songs,
bravery becomes a midnight tale, starting with "once upon a time"
when the eyes of the women are sunken,
From nights of praying redemption comes
when the peoples' hope burn away with the midnight oil.

A country is not a home
when the poor cannot hope
the rich toss and turn, they cannot sleep
when thieves boldly roam the streets and sit on seat of power
when leaders tell tales, they become false prophets
when the protector become the abuser
The law makers become a threat to peace
where every one has gone mad
there is no voice brave enough to kill the silence.
