A Faceless Moon

She left with the moon each morning
Descending further into the darkness,
Deliberately eschewing any light in her life
For she knew that just like the sun,
It would only be temporary
And the pain of losing the only good
That could be given to her would be insufferable.
She lived by the night
To avoid the potentiality of encountering something,
Anything at all, because nothing lasts forever;
Everything worth living for
Will eventually burn out into the darkness too,
But this time she will be ready, waiting.
