A Fading Life

The day that you lay silent
Will be the day I die.
Though heaven may await you-
I know that I shall cry.
You've always held my hand-
Through tenderness and strife.
To bring life to those crystal eyes,
I'd give to you my life.
So I reach close to save you-
The holy angels I should fight.
Alas, I cannot beat them,
Though I try with all my might.
Your smile has brought me comfort-
Lit my dreams amidst the night,
But now I have to let you go
As you transform into the light.
So hold my soul against you
As I gaze into the sky-
To see you part away from me
As we say our last goodbye.
