A Father’s Gift

As I glide silently between riverbanks
still wrapped in morning fog
I think of you and smile
just as I do each time
I walk a sunset beach
cross a mountain stream
or feel the salt sea breeze
from decks that are deep water bound

Each time I soar among the clouds
and watch the world go drifting by
or feel the winter winds
as they play among the mountaintops
I feel your presence there beside me
and silently I thank you
for the gift you've given me

All these things I love to do
they came from you
and for all my life I will remember
I did them all with you
the very first time

This is the gift you've given me
it is my most prized possession
