A Gem

This gem should be celebrated
This gem made us who we are today without hesitation
This gem provided us with many things but most of all preparation
This gem taught us the value of education
This gem makes us laugh when we're crying
Smile when we're sad, loves us unconditionally even when we do bad
This gem should be treasured for eternity
But many fail to see the value of this gem until it's no longer there
That gem is my mother, your mother and every mother across the world
You only get one and she is just as precious as the sun
In many ways the mother and the shining sun are one in the same
They help us grow like a flower in a meadow
They bring light upon us whenever things get dark
They give us warmth if we shall ever get cold
Many don't realize the importance of a mother until the mother's gone
You had so long to cherish that precious gem
But you failed to see the value of that gem until the end
