A Helpless Love

The color of his eyes were brown,
His skin was a light shade of tan,
He'd treat me as if I was wearing a crown,
I'd always hope he'd be my man.

But as time passed so would he,
And our time together would end.
I knew that we could never be,
God please help my heart to mend.

Two months passed from the day he lay,
I've been going a little wild.
Our wedding day was planned for early May,
And the birth of our unborn child.

Six years later and she's without a daddy,
She questions me everyday.
For the wishes of her father I named her Mattie,
And "I loved him" was all I could seem to say.

Her wedding day is coming near,
And it truly breaks my heart.
To stop her from loving is my greatest fear,
Because the day I lost him I was torn apart.
