A Hero

The vision shoots in my mind
In that one little second, I catch it
Then, I close my eyes

I see camo uniforms folded neatly inside a tent
I hear gun shots and the "clip clop" of horse hooves
Smoke fills my nostrils, blocking the fresh air out
The taste of ashes sting in my mouth
I see a blur of Red, White, and Blue slowly gaining height

The vision slips out of my hand
I open my eyes and try to grab it. but I miss
The loved ones are gone
I pick up a rose and gently place it in front of the grave
I wipe away my tears

They gave us the freedom to make our dreams come true
They made today possible
They sacrificed their lives for America
They will always be in our hearts

Those who fought for our country chose to,
and that's what makes them A Hero.
