A Little Taste of Hope

Hope poured from his mouth like honey from a jar
Safety is what his arms felt like
But broken is what she felt when he left,
Just like the rest
Getting so close, then watching it leave
As if as soon as happiness was a choice
An exit sign appeared making it easy to leave
But he doesn’t fully let go
He tells you he loves you but can’t be with you
He loves you like the ocean loves the shore
It leaves but always comes back wanting more
He said you were the only red rose in a tulip garden
So he just had to try
As if this made breaking you
like a shattered window in an empty house okay
As if the word sorry made all the wrong he did right
But it didn’t and you’re still broken
And he’s still gone
