A Lonely Ghazal

There's only one thing I wish to impart unto you
your tired soul wishes to depart from you

Yes, my beloved, Time has written down our names
Time who wishes to tear me apart from you

You remind me that bitter is followed by sweet
I often wish I wasn't too tart for you

If only I could could kiss your tulip-tinted cheek
I'll have wished a niche in my heart for you

Sleep well, Makfufi—every night is long;
Perhaps God decreed no counterpart for you
