A Mind Lost

I wonder what lurks behind those eyes so far away
glaring at faces through the eyes of a newborn
facesyou'ves een so many times a day
are now strangers toa mind gone astray

Like a mighty oak, standing tall during a flood
we watched you cling to stay rooted
Loosing a little more as the ground changed to mud
we talked, but you remained muted

A glimmer of hope each time you recognized
a face from long ago
was quickly drowned when we realized
it was our faces you didn't know

With a mouth that would not eat
we continued to feed you.
We prayed to provide you with spiritual meat
knowing nothing else to do

Then you were there no more
eyes cried for a heart now gone
and as tears dried upon the floor
we knew that you were back HOME!
