A Mother's Guidance

In a humid rainforest of South America,
A gentle mother tends her child.
Dusk is coming, and she must go now;
Her prey awaits her.

On silent paws, she creeps along the forest floor.
Her beautiful spotted coat makes her blend into the leaves.
A mouse scuttles along.
She tenses, and then springs!
The mother has caught dinner.

She crawls back to her den,
A mewing kitten begs for food.
She sets the mouse down;
Time for a lesson.
Teaching him to hunt is rewarding,
He learns well.

When they finally settle down to eat,
There is a smile on her face.

Her son will soon become a great hunter;
For tonight, he has caught his first prey.
