A Mother’s Love

A life lived well it could be said -
A legacy to covet
But to know a mother’s love,
No greater gift above it.

Sacrifice her middle name
To do without - her creed
She gave her children all she had,
Ensured they had no need.

A life of ease a foreign thought
Hard labor took its toll
Yet never lost throughout the years,
Devoted to her role.

To laugh and love – its’ own reward
And laugh and love we did
A happy life cannot be bought
Or contentment ne’er forbid.

And so begin your journey new
But Mother please remember
Your gift of love remains with us,
A never dying ember.
