A Mother’s Psalm

A Mother's Psalm

Lord, please make my laughter hearty
And keep my tears quiet.
Let my inclination be joy!
Keep sorrow at bay;
There are days aplenty for sorrow,
And never enough days for laughter.
Keep me greedy for happiness,
And miserly with sadness.
Let laughter bubble from my mouth
Like a mountain stream.
Yet only allow my tears to trickle,
Let my face be arid as the desert,
Let my throat be full of raucus sound!
Keep my heart glad
And shield my soul from worry.
Help me to remember to live
The days you have given me
With joy and gladness,
Then I will be truly blessed.
