A Parent’s Promise

A parent's promise.

Let me hold your hand my child
I promise I will never let go
Walk with me my child
We are always with you and that you should know

Let's look back and let me tell you again..........and yet again
The day you were born
And we held you, a little you
Life began once again.
The joy we found in looking at those tiny fingers
And the most adorable little feet
An emotion you will never know
An emotion only a parent can feel

As you grew
The first steps you took
The many times you fell
The many times you cried
The times you were unwell
The times you were hurt
We felt the pain
And twice as much.

Growing up is fun
Yet life is not always easy
Yes, we may be tough at times
Yes, at times we just don't understand
Yes, there are times you may hate us
But hope you understand
Being tough on you is hard on us
The times you think we don't understand is only to save you pain
The times you think you hate us we are the ones in tears
Yes growing up is tough my child
And life not always easy
But don't ever fret or feel lonely
The world maybe against you
But your parents will always be there
To hold you
To guide you
To comfort you
Let me hold your hand my child
I promise I will never let go
Talk with me my child
We are always with you
And that you should always know.
