A Poem For A Friend

Staring at the stars

No words said

Cool air breezes by.

We push sadness back

Refusing to concede.

The swing squeaks,

Singing the lullaby

Of the playground.

Lying in the street

Filled with excitement

Jumping at any carlike noise

We prolong the inevitable

Squeezing the moment of every drop

This will soon be past

We won’t be

Part of each other’s

A bittersweet memory

Ended with goodbye.

You tuck Fitzgerald in your purse,

And I drive home

With the moon

In my backseat.
