A Puzzle

You are the puzzle piece
That I said I didn't need
Because I knew where each piece fit
You were never in any of my dreams
Everyone knew but me
How love infects one quite so simply
Gave me no choice but to drag you along
Tied to you by a string of hopeful inadequacies
I simply could not fit you in
You were unknown to me
There were no holes in my puzzle
Or so it seemed to be
I grew fond of that rejected piece
For you spoke so gently to me
And found just the right place for you
In my puzzle that was "already complete"
And now as I look at my puzzle
It could never be more complete
Because I've finally found my heart
The most important piece
