A Reminder

The universe owes you nothing
You’re alive
That should be enough
But to you, it’s not
You expect more
You take
You consume
And when things go wrong
And when you’ve been cut off
You curse the gifts you were given
You’re not right with the world
You resent it
You burn it, kill it
Yet you don’t acknowledge
Soon you’ll be one with it.
Soil will fill your lunges
And roots will steal your clothes
You will be naked,
Turned back into nothing
Without a chance to take it all back
And when the earth swallows you up
Maybe then you’ll realize
That the life you were given
Could just as easily been taken away
Because the universe owes you nothing
Just as it never had

This Poems Story

This is what I wrote when I found myself getting angry over something out of my control
