A Retrieved Moment

With an eagerness that's overwhelming
That's written throughout his face
He waited for the few seconds to elapse
When the bus was within his sight
Patiently beside the two-legged passengers

In an orderly fashion he boarded
No ticket though he bought himself
A golden retriever on his own
Overjoyed though he appeared

The driver couldn't summon any words
As he gleefully walked the isle
Gently and happily swaying his body
During the moment of happiness granted
As he devised an apparent getaway
From his home, the humane society

While the driver sat speechless
"Come on, come on", I addressed him
His momentary owner, I had become then
For he followed me towards the door
Obeying me with dog-loyalty

But, at the door turned he around
As his owner didn't proceed
Confusion had recanted ownership
Another though then claimed it
With kindness, he claimed it easily
Outside the bus, as he stood

With no trouble, he must have guided
Doubtless, the golden retriever to safety
And I, with ease, retrieve the moment
Despite the time that has elapsed
When he gracefully enters my heart
