A Rose by Any Other Name

A Rose by any other name should sound as sweet,
As sweet as the red lollipops she reminds me of,
As sweet as the glassy cherries hanging from the trees,
Just as sweet...
A Rose by any other name should be as pure,
As pure as the very water that grew her.
A Rose by any other name should be as soft
Soft as the hair on a newborn's crown,
But I know of no Rose by this name.
I know of a Rose who shot up quickly
Her sharp prickly thorns ripping through the soil.
I know of a Rose that broke the ground when she came,
Who sprouted even when there was no rain,
Who moves even when there is no wind.
I know of a Rose whose petals were not red
But stained with purple,
Symbolizing the death that everyone thought would become of her.
A Rose by any other name should sound as sweet
But me?
I know of no such Rose.
