A Scarlet Dagger

It comes unbidden
This scarlet dagger
And writhing within
The white of an eye
Pricked and ticking faster
Once a sliver, a spark
Ignited festered
A herd of horses spooked
Galloping towards oblivion
Unknown and unknowing
White hot and burning
A tendril of lightning
Tearing asunder the peace of night
As a cold and merciless doom
To claim the fragile mind
And cause the heart to wither.
