A Sparrow

A protective shell I loathingly call it,
Shielding and numbing my every emotion.
Those eyes of yours, piercing through mine,
Seemingly steadfast, yet filled with devotion.
Cut through my veins, imperfect, impure,
Vexed I am, yet fallen I have.
Time and again, tugging and pushing,
The doors of my cage long for combustion.
Those nightless nights with dreams vivid and clear,
To hold you close, to have you near.
Drowning in darkness, this void of sorrow,
I wish to fly away like a sparrow.
Yet one look at you is all I need,
To get through the day, to set me free.
