A Time for Change

Don't go
Don't leave again
We have to go
We will meet again
But I have held you
This entire time
We are grateful for that
But can't you see the signs
We must start to leave now
A few here and there
We will see you next year
We promise, we swear
I will miss you
I hate this position
Yet I will stand strong
In these harsh conditions
I have cried, yet shed no tears
As I've recollected, of all the years
I watched them blow
On down the road
Crying out
Please don't go
My leaves have left me
Once again
Now rooted and bare
I must stand

This Poems Story

I escape the city and drive along the country roads on my way to work everyday. After many passing forests, a clearing opens up. There, in a large field, stands one lonely tree set apart from all others. I watch this tree go through the seasons and think how sad it must feel to lose its leaves and be all alone again, until the harsh winter subsides and its leaves can return once more.
