A time such as this…

Today I realize that we have not yet obtained the dream
that all men, women and children shall be treated
equally, no matter the color of their skin.
Sadly, men, women and children are losing
their lives this very minute because of the color
of their skin.
I will acknowledge the progress that we have made,
and I rejoice in it, but we have such a journey before
us still. The life of every human being matters.
And the fate of this controversy lies in the hands
of every individual.
We each have the power to bring about change.
Innocent people are being targeted because they
don't fit the profile of what someone considers
the 'status quo'.
A time such as this, requires open minds and
open hearts. We are mankind, we are humankind.
Our commonalities far outweigh our differences.
At a time such as this, we should be better off than
what we are.
