Afraid of the Dark

Late late at night
when the stars aren't so bright,
she'll lay down her head
and try to sleep tight.
But these monsters insane
will crawl in her brain
and visit a monster
that once was slain.
They'll take this thought
and make it rot.
So that she will believe
that she will be caught.
She'll awake with a start
and a fast beating heart.
Only to feel a
fear far too tart.
Her heart will still race
but will find a constant pace
once she makes sure
there's no monsters in her closet space.
But the thing you don't see
is the monsters in me.
They're the reason I can't sleep
even though they're like a flea.
And all of this because of these monsters insane.
