African American Soldiers Of War

We gave you our lives,
Now our country still survives.

Because of Lincoln we were free,
Fighting for you by 1863.

We were treated differently,
But we fought intently.

We fought for our home,
Where new generations now roam.

We fought for the children,
And the average civilian.

We fought for our rights,
So we could reach new heights.

We were African American soldiers of war,
The people heard our mighty roar.

We were courageous and strong,
These traits stuck with us lifelong.

We are now in the stars,
Not behind a master's bars.

Remember the story we tell,
So you may be strong and courageous as well.
