After Hours

Nothing is really as important
as it has the potential to be
But it's past midnight and I'm more figuratively
than literally bursting
And I made sure to turn off the lights
before I kissed my bedroom walls
and I painted the milky way on my ceiling
“You're prettier with the lights off”
is the best compliment you could get from the stars
and I tried naming them after mountains
but ran out of names after 2 seconds and
that made me turn my head to
my hiking boots
because I aspire more than I perspire
and I'm trying to be clever again
but nobody is laughing at me
because nobody cares
and everybody does shit
and there's never any apologies to strangers
because we're all too arrogant
to ever blame ourselves
which is beautiful
