All These Things

i wish i were a hurricane that churns up the ocean floor
i wish i were a rich coral reef that stretched from shore to shore
i wish i were a tectonic plate that could move the earth around
i wish i were an earthquake that crevasses the ground
i wish i were a streak of lightening that lights up the sky
i wish i were a peregrine hawk screeching out my cry
i wish i were a leaf blowing in the wind
i wish i were a tornado that could spin. spin. spin
i wish i were the moon hanging low in the sky
i wish i were the fire that lights up the fly
i wish i were a raindrop that descends from a cloud
i wish i were a thunderstorm. ferocious and loud
i wish i were a mountaintop. a real tower of power
i wish i were growing on the valley floor. a delicate yellow flower
i wish i were the rock that creates the cave
i wish i were the motion in every ocean wave
i wish i were the song of every bird
i wish i were the silence that's broken with a word
i wish i were an ice floe. going from here to there
i wish i were a home for the polar bear
i wish i were the rain that nourishes the soil
i wish i were a volcano that sputters and boils
i wish i were a lake that trickles to a stream
i wish i were all these things that is what i dreamed
i wish no more for i had an epiphany
i am all these things and all these things are me
