Almost Twelve Years

Sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning
I was peacefully immersed in my other world
My body floating gently in warm moonlit waters

A glowing tone beckoned me from better dreams
I got a call from a close friend I wasn't talking to
It had been 3 years 7 months and 12 days

Out of the shocking midnight blue
I got news about a distant stranger I didn't know
We had been 8 years 1 month and 27 days

Remote voices yanked me up through the protecting depths
My air supply was choked by foreign words
I was still a fathom deep when the line was cut

Sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning
I walked to the lake I called my own
My body floating gently to cool sunlit shores
