Hands barely touching
A gulf between us lies.
Like corpses on a rooftop
We stare up at the sky
As if to see the future
Amongst the twinkling stars
As if to glean some meaning
To this lonely life of ours.

Two hearts find a rhythm
Felt in solitude.
Both souls feel the knife
Severing us in two.
Two sets of eyes that see the world
Filtered through our pasts.
Never will they be as one
Never be unmasked.

Two souls, loosely bound
Between, the energy flows.
Each absorbed in thoughts
The other cannot know.
Each feels a subtle current
The coupling of our wills
As we embrace this life together
On a rooftop, totally still.
