Along for the Ride

I've hung my wishes on a clothes line
Birthday candles, shooting stars, and turkey bones
All just swingin' and swayin' on the breeze
Sunshine drenched, over burdened with dreams & desires
All hung out to dry

Calloused hands & crystal balls
Can't tell me what's ahead
I've buried my "should haves" & "what could have beens"
In a shoebox in my backyard & covered it in dirt
X marks the spot

Fortunes fool no more, I'm just a fool
But I've got high hopes with low expectations
Fancy titles, a college degree, certification of completion
Bundled together with I.O.U.'s

No longer are the wheels finely greased
My mind squeaks with uncertainty
Sit down, hold on, & shut up
Like it or not
We're along for the ride
