Always in Our Hearts
There are some things in life that I will never understand,
Like losing a loved one or friend that was sudden or unplanned.
It's amazing how life can just flash before one's eyes,
Before you know it, it's a complete utter surprise.
Unprepared for that moment once you receive the call,
Your heart stops so fast, as your world begins to fall.
Unsure of how to react or even what to say,
There's now a pain in your heart that will never go away.
A million thoughts racing through your mind,
How did we lose track of such precious time.
Overwhelmed with emotions, some angry, some sad,
The support from others is now all that you have.
When trying to cope with the pain that we feel,
We often push away the ones we love in order to heal.
Everyone deserves a moment and some space to reflect,
Eventually within time, they will come and reconnect.
Though it's not easy, your life will move on,
Granted you can't see them, but your loved one is not gone.
They will be by your side every step of the way,
As you hold them in your heart each and every day.

I was born in Italy, raised in the US and I have a beautiful daughter named Marley Rose. A majority of my family dedicated their lives to the military and law enforcement. My dad spent twenty-one years in the Air Force and six years as a deputy. Sadly, his life was taken from us in 2010, which inspired me to begin writing. Even though we can't see him, we know he's still here. He would always say, "This uniform is just a different color, I'm still serving. First it was my country, now it's my county." I love you Dad.
