Frightened cries engulf the night
And yet her parents incessantly fight.
Eight years old, emotionally beat
A ravenous stomach, begging to eat.
She longs to be like any other
Sharing affection with her father and mother.
Silently puzzled, does Mommy feel harm?
Why does she stick that needle in her arm?
Her father leaves, she's now alone
Next to what was her mother, in their somber home.
