American Gothic

The American Dream lives inside people who stare into the sunset,
Chasing god's footprints
It lives inside those who break their back,
in hopes that they will find forgiveness in the winter

American Gothic lives to demolish the architecture
that the Victorians worked for

American Gothic, Midwestern Claustrophobic
They were hopeful
Even when she stared into the distance and
he looked directly at his epitaph of mistakes
Even though the building in the back was demolishing slowly
Even if the dream, the image, the life was demolishing slowly
The american dream lived inside of them
Even as it faded, dreary and doubtful.

American Gothic, Midwestern Claustrophobic

And a country worth dying for
