An Addict's Song

It all starts with a pill.
Gets you rolling up that hill.
Pretty soon your perspective gets turned around,
And you find you’re falling back down,
To the hard, unforgiving ground.
It all starts with a little pill.

It all starts with that first swill,
The one that soothes your aching will,
The one that helps you back down,
From the lofty goal of searching the world ‘round,
For the one who fulfills your heart once found.
It all starts with that first little swill.

It all starts yet with another pill.
This one will make you feel chill.
Now you’re numb to the pain all around,
Your own frivolity seems quite profound.
Feelings no longer welcome, no matter how hard they pound.
It all starts with yet another little pill.

It all starts with bending their will.
Ignoring signals, you have needs to fulfill.
Heady sensations, a sweat-smacking sound,
Dark lust flowers in this recipient you’ve found.
Then the next one, and another, the willing are abound.
It all starts with a little bending of the will.
