Ancient Holiday

Over the glen
And long ago
There was celebrated a
Holiday none from
Our time would know
Absent were stockings
And gingerbread men
Gone were the
Harmonious twitterings of wrens
Instead, when that hot August day
Hit its noontime piqué
Everyone came out to
Play hide and seek
Next, a parade
But without the
Usual trimmings
For all of these floats
Were fashioned from
Fox hair clippings
Finally, a feast
At which no one
Was left out
Complete with chocolate clovers
Strawberry brains
And snowflake trout
