And So, the Innocent Shed Tears

Underneath the bright stars, they wept:
Children of a country torn,
Choking on dust and tears,
Eyes blinded by salt yet wide with fear.

Their hearts dropped to the sound of bombs,
Boom was the music of day and night,
And bodies danced violently, throwing themselves in all directions.

Oh sweet girl with scars on your face,
Little boy with missing limbs,
Family scattered,
And a neighbor once friend, turned enemy"

Oh lovely couple with newborn child
Grandma and her small, forced smile,
Shattered hopes in a land of broken bones...

Country of pain and a future unknown,
How much longer will your children cry?
