There are angels in the sky
that whisper words of comfort in your sleep
that wrap their soft wings around your
trembling shoulders and hold you as you cry.

They look down on you with delight
and remember you as you were when
they were there with you before they were angels
before they had to hold you at night.

And they are thankful for what you do
thankful for the angels you help keep on the ground
long before it is their time to fly to Heaven
thankful for the sad angels who turn to you.

And those sad angels are thankful too
because you are their friend, their parent,
their teacher, you are their guide to hope
to their happiness starting anew.

So your angels in Heaven whomever they may be
and the angels you help on the ground
say, "stay strong" and "thank you, angel,"
for keeping this Heaven from me.
