Any Street, Any Night

By contrast you stand so still,
With your dear, ruffled hair.
Your hair that rebels in the front,
right above your eyes.
And I can see your breath-
white and vaporous,
floating in my direction.
I am inept at telling you the truth
(or any confession for that matter).
For now I am hungry-
We should find some food,
a place to take off jackets.
And once there you can teach me the wanderings
of a mind only you possess.
There, in yellow light
you will ask me the questions
that already have answers.
And I will be grateful
for just those moments.
Only those moments.
Because, darling, any further
would mean no return.
